Irregular numerals, circular openings and an exposed mechanical structure give Andy Skinner’s Industrial Clocks the appearance of aged factory signage and salvaged clock components.
The set contains two round clock faces. Large numerals from 1 to 12 are positioned around the outer ring at varied angles and in contrasting styles, creating a design that appears assembled from vintage metal numbers.
A second ring of small circular cut-outs surrounds the large central opening. This open construction allows patterned paper, photographs, stamped imagery, collage, typography or painted mixed media backgrounds to remain visible behind the clock face.
Each piece measures approximately 11 cm in diameter, making it large enough to become the focal element of a card, journal page or small canvas. Use the two faces separately or layer them together at slightly different angles to create additional depth and a more complex mechanical effect.
The elements are cut from 2250-micron greyboard, approximately 2.25 mm thick. The sturdy surface supports repeated applications of paint and mixed media products while adding clear dimensional structure to the finished project.
Keep the natural grey finish or prime the surface with gesso. Black, charcoal, copper, bronze and rust shades reinforce the industrial appearance, while crackle mediums, texture pastes, embossing powders and metallic waxes can create the effect of aged metal.
These are decorative clock-face elements rather than complete working clocks. Clock hands and mechanisms are not included.
