Cotton paper has been produced since several centuries before Christ, mainly in India, after the Chinese introduced this way of making paper there. Cotton paper is made exclusively from recycled cotton. These are remnants from the clothing and paper industry. Only new cotton is used for the white sheets. Cotton rags are transported to India from all over the world for the production of this paper.
The rags are sorted by hand by color and cut into equal pieces. These are dissolved in large water tanks and "beaten" into a cotton mass. The mass is colored or other fibers or flower petals and the like are added. This is evenly scooped onto large grids, pressed and hung to dry further.
