Apply the glue to the back of the sheet and gently smooth on to the artwork starting at the centre, pushing outwards molding to the surface using finger tips or a flat soft tool to remove any imperfections. Rice papers can be inked, painted or varnished

🧠  What is rice paper

Rice paper is an ultra-thin yet durable art paper with natural fibers, specially designed for decoupage, mixed media and artistic crafts. It blends seamlessly into surfaces, creating a hand-painted look once applied.

Unlike standard decorative papers, rice paper:

  • adapts easily to curved or textured surfaces
  • blends smoothly without visible edges
  • creates a natural, professional finish

🛠️ Where it’s used

Rice paper is perfect for:

  • Decoupage on wood, MDF, canvas, glass, ceramic and metal
  • Mixed media layering
  • Art journaling & collage
  • Home décor & decorative crafts
  • Scrapbooking as focal elements

✂️ How to use it (step-by-step)

  1. Prepare the surface
Clean the surface and apply primer or base paint if needed.
  2. Cut or tear
Cut with scissors or tear by hand for a softer, organic edge.
  3. Apply glue
Use decoupage glue or gel medium. Apply a thin layer to the surface.
  4. Place the paper
Gently position the rice paper and smooth from the center outward.
  5. Seal it
Apply another thin layer of glue on top to secure it.
  6. Finish (optional)
Once dry, add acrylics, waxes, patinas or varnish.

💡 Why choose rice paper

  • Blends better than scrapbooking paper
  • Reduces wrinkles
  • Ideal for layering and vintage effects
  • Creates a refined, artistic result

Pro Tip:
Soften the edges with a bit of water or gel medium before fully drying to help the design blend into the background.
