Procion MX dyes are a professional range developed to bring control, durability and clarity to textile dyeing. Their fiber-reactive formula chemically bonds with the fiber itself, meaning the color becomes part of the fabric rather than sitting on the surface. This results in permanent, wash-fast color with excellent depth.

They activate in cold water, dissolving easily in tap water at room temperature 💧 This protects fabrics from heat stress, shrinkage or distortion and makes them ideal for modern dyeing techniques.

The Brown Rose shade is a muted, earthy rose with brown undertones 🌸🤎 It delivers a soft, vintage aesthetic and works beautifully in ice dyeing and shibori, as well as in solid dyeing, gradation and ombre applications. It’s perfect for boho, romantic and natural color palettes and pairs effortlessly with linen tones, olive greens, deep blues and warm neutrals.

Procion MX dyes are highly durable, easy to use and designed for natural fibers. One jar contains enough dye to color more than 0.45 kg (1 lb) of dry fabric, depending on the desired depth of color.

🔥 They are ideal for shibori, batik, ice dyeing, printing, screen printing, immersion dyeing, fabric painting, gradation & ombre techniques, sprinkle dyeing, or any process that requires clean, stable color on fabric. It’s no coincidence they are widely used by macramé artists and textile designers.

👉 Features:

  • Cold water fabric dye (chemically fixed, no heat required)
  • Permanent & wash-fast results
  • Suitable for batik, tie dye, shibori, ice dyeing, tub & low water immersion dyeing, printing and painting
  • Color: Brown Rose
  • Size: 0.75oz / 18.7 g

Soda ash is required when dyeing cellulose fibers.

🔊 Synthrapol is recommended before, during and after dyeing to remove residues, improve dye penetration and help prevent future color bleeding.

Inspiration
Brown Rose brings softness, warmth and understated elegance 🌸 Use it in ice dyeing for organic, flowing transitions or in shibori for gentle, refined contrasts. Perfect for boho textiles, macramé and projects inspired by natural tones and aged surfaces.

Procion MX dyes are “cold water dyes” that are fixed chemically instead of with heat. This unique property sets Procion MX apart from all other dyes and establishes them as the undisputed king of backyard dyeing, batik and tie dye.

Because Procion MX dyes can be used away from the stovetop, they are also the ideal colors for shibori, ice dyeing, tub and low water immersion dyeing, printing, direct painting and other “alternative” dye applications. As a fiber-reactive dye, Procion MX forms a strong covalent bond with cellulosic fibers, making it the most permanent and washfast of all dyestuffs. Mix the concentrated dye powder with tap water to create the most vibrant colors possible for cotton, linen and other plant-based fabrics (may also be used with protein fibers if acidified).

Procion MX dyes are typically used with a soda ash fixative, which can be added directly to the dye bath or used to pretreat the fabric as in tie dyeing and other “batch setting” techniques.

🔷 WHAT AMOUNTS OF PROCION MX DO I NEED FOR DYEING?

A small container (18,71 g) dyes approx. 500g of dry fabric. Please note that you need more dye for very bright colors and less for pastel color tones. Black requires the double amount.

🔷 COLD DYE WITH PROCION MX?

Unlike the usual 'hot water textile dyes', Procion MX-Dyes are fixed chemically and not with heat. Thanks to this unique property, Procion MX can be used for all modern dye techniques - e.g. for batik or the very popular tie dye. Along with Procion MX Textile Dye, all you need is a dye activator = soda (sodium carbonate) and salt.

Here's a short summary of the chemical process:
When the textile dye penetrates the fibre together with soda and salt, a permanent bond is created.  As a fibre-reactive dye, Procion MX bonds with the fibre on the molecular level and becomes a chemical part of the fabric.  That makes this dye really washfast.

🔷 DYEING OF SILK OR SYNTHETIC FIBRES?

▪ We do not recommend Procion MX for protein fibres (silk, feathers, wool etc.). Experienced dyers can also dye silk with Procion MX, however the color tones will not be identical to the dye results on cellulose fibres. Replace soda with vinegar or baking soda. Animal wool cannot be dyed with Procion MX.

▪ Synthetic fibres, such as polyester, polyacrylic or polyamide cannot be dyed with Procion MX either.
