Holbein Irodori Artist Gouache - Traditional Colors of Japan, Summer

Holbein Artists' Gouache is intensely saturated, opaque, and finely milled—so it handles beautifully with a brush. Made from top-shelf pigments and natural gum arabic, the same building blocks as watercolor, but with a much higher percentage of solid pigment. The additional pigment load gives Holbein gouache both its opacity and its gorgeous matte finish.

Designers, illustrators, and cartoonists will especially love working with Holbein gouache, which is made with the professional in mind. The huge range of colors means less mixing, brighter brights, and distinctive, realistic neutrals. Application is easy and highly consistent, since all Holbein gouache colors are milled to perfect smoothness and mixed to a stiff paint body that can be modified or applied straight.

Holbein has made industry-leading gouache for many years, but the Irodori (traditional colors of Japan) range of 48 colors is a recent addition. Designed to be fully compatible with the existing selection of 89 standard colors, the Irodori colors are inspired by Japan's four seasons and range from muted earth tones to bright metallics.

This boxed set of 12 colors celebrates the look and feel of summer. Dark, saturated colors dominate the Irodori summer set, with deep brown earth, hot orange and red, fully-developed foliage greens, and a variety of tropical water tones. White and black—for bright highlights and deep shadow—are included here, too, since summer is the highest-contrast season.
